You
can present an almost unlimited amount of information on the web. Just not all
at once, and not all on the same page. A web designer can
help you decide how to organize your information. When it comes to creating content, however,
you can definitely do it yourself. Here
are some tips on making your web site content user friendly:
·
Keep
pages short: 250 words or less. Provide links to longer documents.
·
Use
headlines and subheadings to highlight benefits and features.
·
Use
bullets and links to move the reader through your website. Try to limit the
number of bullets to five or less. (A note on links: don’t send the reader away
until you’ve told them everything you have to say in that particular section.)
·
Avoid
using language that will “date” your site.
The same goes for graphics.
·
Consider
using a either a blog or a newsletter to keep
customers informed about your company and its products. Blogs
are posted frequently, so if you don’t have a lot of information to pass along,
an electronic newsletter might be a better way to go.
·
Always
provide a call to action. Some suggestions: request a quote, contact for more
information, or sign up for a newsletter.
